Care stories

Every cat has their own story, routine and way of feeling safe. These experiences show how I adapt my care—from earning a nervous cat’s trust to supporting established medication routines and helping when life changes unexpectedly.

Patience & confidence

Nani: from cautious sniffs to lap-time cuddles

Rescued from the streets of Hungary as a kitten, Nani is naturally wary and easily frightened. Sharing her home with a more confident, bossy companion meant she also needed space and time to build trust at her own pace.

I started slowly: quiet movements, no sudden gestures, and letting Nani approach and sniff without expecting anything from her. I provided a scent sheet carrying my smell so she could become familiar with me between visits. Sometimes, care simply meant sitting quietly at a comfortable distance, giving her time to discover that she was safe with me.

I kept her companion occupied while making sure Nani had her own attention. Treats helped us build a connection, and little strokes gradually became longer fusses—always on her terms.

Now our visits include lap time, roly-polys and affection. Just as importantly, her cat parent feels confident that Nani is comfortable and well cared for while they’re away.

Trust takes time. For Nani, giving her that time made all the difference.

Emergency support

Magic: a little extra support when life changed unexpectedly

When Magic’s mum unexpectedly needed to be away, the local authority helped arrange care so he could stay in his familiar home.

I stepped in to keep Magic fed, comfortable and cared for, maintaining his routine and providing reassurance that he was in safe hands.

My support continued after his mum returned home. I stayed involved while she settled back in, until she felt confident caring for Magic independently again.

Sometimes, cat care means being there through a period of change—and giving both a cat and their parent the time and support they need.

Individual routines

Sphynx care: warmth, comfort and gentle attention

For hairless Sphynx cats, warmth is an especially important part of everyday comfort. My visits include checking that their cosy igloos are accessible and haven’t been squashed flat by a reclining naked bottom!

There’s also a warm lap available for anyone who wants to curl up, with cuddles guided by each cat’s preferences.

I pay particular attention to their individual skin-care routines and gently wipe around their eyes as needed, following their cat parent’s instructions.

Thoughtful care helps these distinctive cats stay cosy, comfortable and settled at home.

Prescribed care

Diabetic cats: a dependable routine at home

Caring for a diabetic cat means paying close attention to their individual routine. My experience includes blood-glucose checks, feeding and prescribed insulin, alongside any other agreed medication.

Before care begins, I go through the cat’s routine and instructions with their parent so visits can be planned around what they need. I follow the agreed veterinary care plan and keep their parent informed with readings and updates.

This is practical support with an established routine, rather than diagnosing or changing treatment. Any concerns or uncertainty about medication need guidance from the cat’s vet.

Careful attention, clear communication and consistency are central to these visits.

Gentle medication support

Kitten eye care: calm, patient help with prescribed drops

Even lively kittens can need a little extra support. My experience includes caring for kittens with eye infections and giving their prescribed eye drops during home visits.

I work gently and patiently, following the treatment instructions provided for each kitten and allowing time for reassurance around their care. Keeping their cat parents updated is part of the visit too.

The aim is to continue the care already prescribed while their family is away. Treatment decisions remain with the vet.

A small task can call for plenty of patience—especially when the patient is a wriggly kitten.
